Innovative "Serunding cendawan " at MAHA show

SERDANG, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- In the spirit of "Malaysia Boleh" (Malaysia Can) two innovative entrepreneurs were inspired to develop and innovate new agro-based products which they introduced at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show 2008 (MAHA) here Thursday.One of the more interesting products showcased at the exposition had a twist on the "serunding", a local Malay delicacy. It came in the form of mushroom serunding, a first as the delicacy had always been meat based.Sinona Shaari, founder of Ladang Genting Permai Resources (which produces mushroom based products), said was inspired to develop the mushroom serunding because fresh mushrooms only lasted for two to three days and leftover stockpile deteriorated quickly."So we researched ways turn excess stocks into profitable products. We came up with mushroom tempura, mushroom flour and recently (February 2008) mushroom serunding," she told Bernama at her booth in MAHA.Sinona also explained that currently they are still processing mushroom serunding by hand although with expansion in mind they are in the process of getting a machine that would be able to process the delicacy more efficiently in terms of bulk and speed.
